Srinagar, Nov 05 (KNO): The Government Medical College (GMC) Doda continues to function without a regular Principal, raising concerns over administrative functioning and the difficulties being faced by students in getting their academic and documentation-related matters resolved. The institute is functioning without the principal for months together which is badly impacting the work culture of the institute. Taking up the issue, the All India Medical Students' Association (AIMSA), Jammu and Kashmir, has approached the Health and Medical Education Department, seeking immediate intervention and the appointment of a regular or interim/in-charge Principal to ensure the smooth functioning of the institution. In a communication addressed to the Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department, accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), AIMSA highlighted that the prolonged absence of an institutional head has adversely affected several important academic and administrative activities at the medical college. The association pointed out that students are facing considerable inconvenience as various official formalities, including the issuance and verification of certificates, academic approvals and other essential documentation, require the approval and signatures of the Principal. It said the absence of an authorised institutional head has resulted in delays in processing such matters, leaving students struggling to get their legitimate academic and administrative requirements fulfilled. AIMSA observed that a medical college requires continuous administrative leadership to ensure the effective coordination of academic activities, institutional affairs and student-related services. "Students should not be made to suffer academically or administratively because of the absence of an institutional head. The matter requires immediate attention to prevent further inconvenience," the association said in its representation. The AIMSA has urged the department to appoint a regular Principal at GMC Doda without further delay. Alternatively, it has sought the designation of a competent interim or in-charge Principal until a regular appointment is made. It has called for necessary directions to ensure that all pending student-related documents, certificates, academic approvals and other administrative matters are processed promptly without further delays. AIMSA J&K President Dr Momin Khan said that the issue goes beyond an administrative arrangement, as the absence of a designated head can affect the day-to-day functioning of an important medical institution and create avoidable difficulties for students. He expressed hope that the department would take cognisance of the matter and initiate timely measures to restore administrative efficiency at the college—(KNO)
