Srinagar, Nov 03 (KNO): The heart of Srinagar witnessed a spiritual spectacle on Friday as thousands of devotees from far-flung areas of the valley gathered at the Khanyar shrine of Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), popularly known as Peer Dastgeer Sahib, on the occasion of Friday following Urs of the revered saint. The shrine, a significant spiritual centre in the valley, was illuminated with a celestial glow as the faithful came together to witness the holy relic associated with the revered saint. This annual gathering is a testament to the enduring legacy and influence of Hazrat Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) on the lives of Muslims here. Local residents who have been attending the Urs celebration for decades, expressed their feelings while speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). "This day is not just a tradition; it's a spiritual connection that transcends time and space, as it's a day when we come together to seek blessings and find solace in the presence of Dastgeer Sahib," said Bilal Ahmed from south Kashmir's Pulwama district. The Urs celebration is a reminder of our shared cultural and religious heritage, as it is a time when we witness the unity of our community, he said, adding that it is a beautiful experience to be a part of this Urs Mubarak. Mukhtar Ahmad from north Kashmir's frontier district Kupwara expressed, "The annual Urs celebration at Dastgeer Sahib Shrine is not only a religious event but also a cultural and social gathering that reinforces the unity and communal harmony among the people of the region. It is a testimony to the enduring legacy of Hazrat Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) and his timeless teachings that continue to inspire and guide the faithful." Moreover, the devotees including young and old, men and women, flocked to the shrine to pay their respects and seek blessings. The atmosphere was filled with a sense of unity and devotion, as people gathered to share in the spiritual significance of the occasion.” The Urs celebration of Hazrat Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) is a cherished tradition in Kashmir, with devotees from various parts of the valley and beyond participating in the celebrations during which special prayers and Khatamat-ul-Moazamaat including Auraad-e-Qadriya are recited. Meanwhile, authorities had made adequate arrangements to ensure the safety and security of the devotees. The traffic management and other facilities were put in place to cater to the large number of visitors and maintain order and assist the pilgrims.”—(KNO)
