Srinagar, May 05 (KNO): In a bid to provide a platform to the young generation, a 30-year-old youth from downtown Srinagar has been publishing a literary magazine to accommodate the write-ups of young scholars entailing contemporary literature in Jammu and Kashmir. Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Suhail Salim said that he has published several books of women fiction writers so far which includes Harfi Shehreen and Tabasum Zia Kay Afsanay. He has also published nearly 300 articles so far on social, cultural and literary topics. “I have published about 300 articles on social, cultural and literary topics," Salim said. He said that he has started a quarterly literary magazine “Kohi Maran” which was first published in July 2021. The purpose of publishing ’Kohi Maran’ was to promote Urdu language and literature in Kashmir especially in the Srinagar city” "In Covid-19, various sectors related to life were affected, and it also had negative effects on Urdu language and literature. Because of this, reliable magazines and journals of Urdu language and literature stopped being published in J&K as well as outside the UT," he said. "Then in order to eliminate these negative effects, I started publishing a literary magazine titled Kohi Maran in 2021 with a goal to bring the new generation to the folds of Urdu literature. The rich literary reviews, articles or critical write ups published in Koh-e-Maran will be very useful to Urdu language students and research scholars. A Special issue of Kohi Maran, his literary magazine, will be released on Rehman Rahi's 98 Birth Anniversary, tomorrow, to commemorate Rahi's contribution to Kashmiri literature. He said that a special issue of the quarterly magazine is being issued tomorrow on Giyan Peeth Award winning poet Rehman Rahi on his 98th birthday. "Professor Rehman Rahi, the eminent poet of Kashmiri language who passed away recently has played a central role in making Kashmiri language and literature recognized at the international level and nobody can forget his contribution to Kashmiri poetry and literature in general." Suhail said. He claimed that this special issue of Kohi Maran will be beneficial to literary friends, research scholars and students interested in taking Rahi's vision to the new generation. "You can find and read all issues of Quarterly Kohi Maran online from Rekhta." he said—(KNO)
