Srinagar, Sep 30 (KNO): Residents of Garden Lane in Chanpora area of Srinagar Monday accused the authorities of ignoring their plights, saying that they are facing severe hardship as drain water has entered their locality, affecting around 150 houses.
They said the drainage system, functional since 2012, has been blocked for the last three months, causing flooding in the area.
Locals from the area who spoke to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), allege despite their repeated complaints, officials have been inactive, watching the situation unfold without taking decisive action.
“They are merely spectators, watching everything while doing nothing,” one of the residents said. He added although the concerned department deployed pumps to clear the water, residents believe this is only a temporary fix.
“Pumping out the water helps for a while, but the problem returns in no time, and we want a permanent solution for this issue,” said another resident.
An official from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) told KNO they had visited the affected area. “We are working on finding a permanent solution for this issue, and the matter will be resolved at the earliest,” he said—(KNO)
