Srinagar, Jul 07 (KNO): Echoing India’s position for adopting a "zero tolerance" approach towards terrorism the BRICS grouping has condemned the Pahalgam terror attack in the strongest terms and called for shunning double standards in countering the menace. In a statement, a copy of which is with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the grouping said, “We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April 2025, during which 26 people were killed.” “We reaffirm our commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including the cross-border movement of terrorists, terrorism financing and safe havens,” it said. “We urge to ensure zero tolerance for terrorism and reject double standards in countering terrorism,” the statement said, adding, “We call for an expeditious finalization and adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism in the UN framework. We call for concerted actions against all UN designated terrorists and terrorist entities.” The statement said that the BRICS adopts strongest ever language on UNSC reforms and reiterates its support for a comprehensive reform of the United Nations Security Council, with a view to making it more democratic, representative, effective and efficient, and to increase the representation of developing countries in the Council’s memberships so that it can adequately respond to prevailing global challenges and support the legitimate aspirations of emerging and developing countries from Africa, Asia and Latin America, including BRICS countries. “We stress that the United Nations Security Council reform will lead to the amplified voice of the global south. We reiterate support to the aspirations of Brazil and India to play a greater role in the United Nations, including its Security Council,” it added—(KNO)
