Kupwara, Jun 01 (KNO): Amid the ongoing deadly wave of Coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir, a medical student with colleagues are volunteering their services in remote villages of the border district Kupwara and conducting sampling and distributing required medicines.
Haroon Ahmad, an MMPHW student and a resident of Zurhama village in north Kashmir's Kupwara district is volunteering his services along with some of his colleagues.
Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Haroon said that he has been conducting Covid-19 testing of people living in remote areas where even the mobile network providers are not operational.
“I have been working since last year from the month of March voluntarily in the far-flung areas where even the medical teams are not accessible and conducting Covid testing and distributing medicines,” he said.
Haroon said that he has conducted tests of around 200 individuals living in makeshift houses regionally known as 'Behak' located in dense forests.
“I accompany both the health department and the volunteer groups in places like Jumagand, Gujjar Patti, and others to offer my services voluntarily,” he said.
“Of the total tests I have conducted, around 5 to 7 individuals have tested positive for the virus,” he said.
He further credited his colleague Umer Ahmad for his support and volunteer services within the district saying that even he accompanies to several far off places these days
