People rejoice watching normalcy returning on streets after decades

Srinagar, Aug 14 (KNO): A day ahead of Independence Day, Srinagar witnessed buzzing night life after several decades. This is a seen a departure from the past when Kashmir would witness empty streets and shuttered shops in view of security hassle. In Srinagar, Ghanta Ghar and adjoining commercial hub Lal Chowk, Jehlum river front, Rajbagh Bridge and many other places were filled with people and traffic plying normally. Locals told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that this is something new for them. “Now people are enjoying nightlife here. I remember the times when the streets used to be quiet after sunset, and now it is heartwarming to see the city coming alive late night,” said Mohammad Ismail, a senior citizen running a shop at Rajbagh. “It's amazing to witness the transformation of our city. We're finally able to enjoy the nightlife that we've heard about from other places in India,” said Sahil Ahmad, a local boy who was spotted enjoying with friends at Srinagar's Jehlum riverfront. “The installation of the LED screen near Ghanta Ghar, its new look and other stuff here, has added a whole new dimension to the night experience, it's like the city has embraced modernity while preserving its charm,” said Ubaid a young boy who was seen at Srinagar's Clock Tower. Likewise, the bustling traffic in the late-night, shops and the busy streets filled with people have added a special touch to the valley's nightlife, especially on the eve of Independence Day.
