Srinagar, Dec 24 (KNO): As a unique celebration of Christmas in Kashmir, a 30-feet Christmas tree crafted from dried Chinar leaves and bamboo has been unveiled in a hotel in Srinagar city, opposite the famous Dal Lake.
The tree, which took 10 days to complete, is a creative blend of Kashmir’s heritage and festive spirit.
Speaking exclusively with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Caso, a representative from the hotel, said this Chinar tree has been made with bamboo, Chinar leaves, and other ornaments specifically for this Christmas.
“Chinar is a legacy of Kashmir, and we wanted to incorporate it into the festivities,” she said.
She added that the hotel celebrates all festivals, including Eid, Diwali, and Christmas. “This year, we wanted to make Christmas special by creating a tree that symbolizes both the holiday and Kashmir’s rich heritage,” said Caso.
She said the tree’s construction involved about 15 team members, who worked tirelessly for 10 days to bring the concept to life. “As today is Christmas Eve and we are at Hotel Lake View in front of the beautiful Dal Lake, we will celebrate Christmas here at 12 AM tonight and also have a bonfire to celebrate,” she said, adding, “We also have gifts for our customers who have arrived from many parts of the country, along with visitors from outside India. Tonight will be fun.”
Notably, the Chinar leaf Christmas tree is the first of its kind in the region and has become a point of attraction for locals and visitors alike, showcasing Kashmir’s unique cultural touch to global festivities, with people clicking selfies and photos with the tree—(KNO)
