CEO SDA reviews SWM plant ahead of SANJY-2025 | KNO

Sonamarg, Jun 02 (KNO): The preparation for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2025), Chief Executive Officer of the Sonamarg Development Authority, Bilal Mukhtar, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) plant in Sonamarg. He was accompanied by officials from the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department and the Mechanical Engineering Department to assess the plant’s operational readiness, a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reads. The visit was aimed at evaluating the plant’s capacity to handle the anticipated increase in waste generation during the Yatra season. A reliable and efficient waste management system is critical for maintaining cleanliness, public hygiene, and the ecological balance of the region. Er. Ashiq Ahmad, Executive Engineer, R&B Department, Er. Muzaffar Ahmad, Assistant Executive Engineer, Mechanical Engineering Department, Er. Kaiser Ahmad, Assistant Engineer, Er. Javaid Ahmad, Junior Engineer and others were present on the occasion. During the inspection, CEO Bilal Mukhtar emphasized the pivotal role of solid waste management in preserving Sonamarg’s pristine environment, especially during the heavy tourist and pilgrim influx. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to adopting eco-friendly and sustainable waste disposal practices. The inspection underscored the coordinated efforts among departments to ensure complete preparedness for the Yatra. Key strategies discussed included: Augmenting manpower for waste collection and management, Establishing additional waste collection points and ensuring round-the-clock functioning of the SWM plant. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to provide pilgrims and tourists with a clean, safe, and environmentally responsible experience during their visit to Sonamarg—(KNO)
