Anantnag, Aug 15 (KNO): The locals of Chattabal have expressed resentment against the administration for “failing” to develop the newly-emerged tourist destination in this south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The locals told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that if Chattabal will be developed on modern lines, it can emerge as one of the best tourist spots in the valley and provide employment to thousands of people.
Akhter Hussain, a local resident, told KNO that minor works have been done on the spot but the major works that can “change the destiny” of the area are yet to be done.
As of now, a few buildings have been constructed but the infrastructure that needs to be developed is still missing, he said.
The locals said the government has enlisted hundreds of destinations including Chattabal as tourist spots and claimed to have developed these resorts.
“The government’s claims fall flat on the ground as it has failed to develop Chattabal as the area is without basic amenities,” said a local shopkeeper.
He said such negligence by the administration is detrimental to the promotion of tourism in the area.
Interestingly, Chattabal of Chitergul- Shangas area of Anantnag district is merely 20 km away from the famous Mughal garden of Achabal.
As per the locals, Chhatabal when developed will attract thousands of visitors and can also serve as the favourite destination for adventure tourists as the famous Margan-top is adjacent to the area.
They said that despite bringing these issues to the notice of the concerned authorities several times, there is hardly any improvement on the ground.
They requested Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to personally look into the matter and direct the officials to develop this tourist spot—(KNO)
