Srinagar, Jun 01 (KNO): Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education Atal Dullo on Tuesday inaugurated Cobas 6800 laboratory at Government Medical College Jammu.
Talking to reporters on the occasion, Dullo said that the machine has a capacity of 1200 RT-PCR tests on a daily basis and it gives accurate results. “It will help us to do tests on a fast track basis without any human intervention,” he said as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
He added that the machine is to ramp up Covid testing speed and will “ease out burden on our manpower.” Dullo was accompanied by Principal GMC Dr Shashi Sudan besides other officials on the occasion.
Officials said the COBAS 6800 is the first such testing machine procured by the Government for testing COVID-19 cases. The COBAS 6800 is a fully automated, high-end machine for performing RT-PCR tests for COVID-19.
The machine will provide high-volume, and quality testing and will be able to test around 1200 samples in 24 hours. This will help to increase the testing capacity in the Union Territory of J&K
The COBAS 6800 is a sophisticated machine enabled with robotics. This machine will help minimize the chance of contamination and the risk of contraction of the virus by healthcare professionals as the machine is operated remotely, with very little human intervention.
They said that COBAS 6800 can also reportedly detect other pathogens like Viral Hepatitis B and C, HIV, Mtb, Papilloma, CMV, Chlamadiya, Neiserreia, etc—(KNO)
