Srinagar, May 24 (KNO): At a time when Covid-19 pandemic has created an atmosphere of fear and panic among citizens, it has brought people from different community together. On May 22, when the family of a Covid victim in Jammu were unable to perform his last rites over several reasons, a local NGO stepped up to the task of giving dead a respectful farewell. A middle aged man from Srinagar had fell unconscious at rented residence in Jammu on May 22 morning and his wife and minor son were unable to take him to hospital. The family in a helpless condition called a member of a local NGO Ababeel for help and within no time, members of the organization reached to the spot and took the unconscious patient to hospital. In hospital, the patient was declared brought dead and was tested positive for covid-19. With no one around and unable to take the body back to the valley, the family members of the victim requested NGO members to lay him to rest in local graveyard. Hamaad, a member of this organisation told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that laying anyone to rest isn't a new thing to them as every second day since the beginning of Covid-19, they have been performing last rites of the COVID-19. “We received a call from a family who were from Srinagar and accordingly reached to the place and took him to hospital and later buried him at Gujjar Nagar graveyard,” Hamaad said. “Virus will remain for some more time, so it doesn't mean we won't touch the bodies of the persons who died of Covid-19,” he said. “We are ready to help anyone whether it is Muslim or from any other religion.”—(KNO)
