Srinagar, Jun 07 (KNO): At a time when schools are focusing on compensating the academic losses due to COVID-19 lockdown, the government on Monday announced summer vacation for Jammu division from June-08 to July 25. The government said that all government educational institutions including recognized private schools upto class 12th standard falling in Jammu Division shall observe summer vacations with immediate effect from June-8 to July-25. In this regard, an order was issued by the Principal Secretary School Education Department, B K Singh, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). The order states that there will be online interaction of teaching faculty with students through WhatsApp groups, Google-meet etcetera at least once in a week. “Weekly programs and assessment shall continue to be conducted throughout the vacations for engaging children in cultural activities and for consolidation of curriculum, syllabus already covered,” it reads. The government also said that the teacher shall remain available for any query or doubt of any student on phone or WhatsApp etcetera. Singh said that the government will also announce summer vacation for the students of Kashmir division too. “The government is mulling to announce summer vacation of nearly two weeks for the students of Kashmir division, but so far no date has been decided,” he said. In the meantime, the parents of the students said that government should have focused on compensating the academic losses suffered by the students due to the COVID-19 lockdown instead of announcing summer vacations. “While the students are not going for regular classes as usual, there was no need of announcing summer vacations for the students,” said one of the parents. He said that the government should have focused on the losses suffered by the students in past few years—(KNO)
