Srinagar, Nov 15 (KNO): The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has published its final list of shortlisted candidates for the post of Registrar for which the Varsity said the interview will be held shortly. As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the post of Registrar was advertised in July. The preliminary screening report of candidates was notified in October and called upon candidates with any shortfall of documents/discrepancies to submit the required documents. In the Revised Screening Report notified on the IUST website on November 14, seven out of a total of nine applicants have been declared as eligible. One of the applicants, Maroof Naeem Qadri of Kashmir University, has been only provisionally declared eligible in view of the controversy surrounding his EMBA IT degree obtained through IGNOU. The IUST has said that in case of Qadri's candidature, the "selection shall be subject to the establishment of equivalence of the Executive MBA (IT Management) degree with regular PG degree by the Competent National Regulatory Bodies (UGC/AICTE etc.)." Another applicant from KU, Dr Musavir Ahmad, has been declared ineligible due to "lack of experience in required pay level". It may be noted that Qadri's parent institute, the Kashmir University, has itself written to the UGC regarding the equivalence of his EMBA IT degree which has come under scanner. The time duration of Qadri's degree is just 18 months while that of a regular PG degree valid as per UGC is two years. There has been a repeated demand in KU for probe into Qadri's academic credentials, especially his EMBA IT degree which has a direct bearing on the validity of PhD obtained by him from KU's Department of Computer Sciences. Meanwhile, the eligible candidates at IUST include Dr Abdul Rouf Khan, Dr Parvez Ahmad Mir, Dr Ashfaq Ahmed, Dr Abdul Wahid, Prof Syed Kaiser Bukhari, Dr Sheikh Ghulam Mohammad and Col Rajesh Kumar Rao. The IUST notice said the interview will be held shortly for which the date shall be communicated to the candidates—(KNO)
