Srinagar, Aug 26 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir Eco-Watch (JKEW) Saturday officially launched the ambitious "Go_Green_Gulmarg" initiative.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the initiative of JKEW was launched in collaboration with Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir, Earth Day Network-India, Gulmarg Development Authority, Municipal Committee Tangmarg and Gulmarg, J&K Forest Department, Department of Wildlife Protection, Forest Protection Force, J&K Tourist Police, Wildlife Conservation Fund, YPJK and various other concerned departments.
In a statement JKEW said that Gulmarg, renowned globally for its skiing and Gondola services, is not just a destination; it's an embodiment of natural beauty.
“The ‘Go Green Gulmarg’ initiative, aimed at restoring its charm, envisions a pristine, clean, and verdant Gulmarg. The effort received overwhelming support from diverse stakeholders including local communities, Pony Association, Tourist Guide Association, Shopkeepers Association, and dedicated green volunteers,” it reads.
The inauguration of this noble endeavor was led by Nadeem Qadri, an esteemed Environmental Lawyer and Amicus Curiae in several Public Interest Litigations at the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir. He was joined by esteemed officials including Mir Tafeez, EO of MC Tangmarg/Gulmarg and Javid ul Rehman, Assistant Director of Tourism Gulmarg.
"The Go Green Gulmarg initiative represents a collective commitment to preserving the natural splendor of Gulmarg, which holds a special place in the hearts of travelers worldwide. We acknowledge the participation and enthusiasm of all involved stakeholders, and we are dedicated to realizing a cleaner, greener Gulmarg for generations to come," said Nadeem Qadri during the launch.
This initiative aims to address various aspects of environmental conservation, waste management, and sustainable tourism practices. The collaboration of government bodies, environmental organizations, and passionate individuals underscores the significance of this project.
Mir Tafeez, Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee Tangmarg/Gulmarg, emphasized the importance of reducing single-use plastic and promoting responsible waste disposal. He highlighted the implementation of color-coded bins across Gulmarg to encourage proper waste segregation and disposal.
He stated, "Our commitment to this cause is unwavering. By promoting responsible waste management practices, we ensure that Gulmarg remains a breathtaking haven for both nature enthusiasts and future generations."
Javid ul Rehman, Assistant Director of Tourism Gulmarg expressed wholehearted support for the initiative, assuring that all possible assistance would be provided while adhering to the stipulated norms, rules, and regulations.
