Srinagar, Nov 23 (KNO): A 20 year old ‘self-taught’ artist is winning hearts of people with her calligraphy work which she uploads on different social media platforms.
Abida Rashid (20), daughter of Abdul Rashid resident of HMT area of Srinagar who is a BSC student, has so far made hundreds of calligraphy pieces and has already sold most of them.
Abida while talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that she was interested in making sketches and other arts since her childhood, however, last year due to during Covid lockdown she decided to make some Islamic calligraphy herself.
"I started making calligraphy pieces and within just a few days I learned this art and started making calligraphy pieces,” she said.
“Once I started spending time in calligraphy, I was feeling relaxed and it was giving me a peace of mind and since then I spent one to two hours in calligraphy work every day.”
Abida said that the work isn't affecting her studies but instead this artwork gives her freshness and if she even spends time in art work in evening hours she feels fresh and Islamic calligraphy is more than a hobby and passion for her.
“So far I have sold around 100 Islamic calligraphy pieces with one piece price ranging from Rs 550 to Rs 2000. Now I make pieces on orders only,” she said.
Abida said that the youth of J&K are very much talented but there is need to direct them properly towards their goal and youth must work hard and show steadfastness in order to achieve their goal—(KNO)
