Jammu, Mar 26 (KNO): Veteran Bollywood actor and South Film Industry, Prakash Raj reached Leh in the Union Territory of Ladakh this morning to celebrate his 59th birthday with environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk and other agitators who were on fast unto death for various demands including full statehood and supported their movement. Raj, who is also socially active in raising various issues said that the people of Ladakh are not only fighting only for themselves but for the welfare of every countryman. As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Raj joined Wangchuk's climate protest- a demonstration in Leh. The protest aims to promote Ladakh's independence and draws attention to the environmental harm caused by industrial activities in the Himalayan region. Raj advocated for Ladakh's environmental protection. Raj used his social media platforms to express his support for Wangchuk and the people of Ladakh. In a video message, he emphasized the need for environmental conservation and safeguarding our future. Sharing a video from the ongoing climate fast in Ladakh on his X (previously Twitter) handle, Prakash Raj wrote, "It's my birthday today .. and I’m celebrating by showing solidarity with @Wangchuk66 and the people of Ladakh who are fighting for us .. our country .. our environment and our future. let’s stand by them #justasking" Sonam Wangchuk Urges People To Spread Word About ClimateFast in Ladakh, Says 'Mainstream Indian Media Cares More About Seema Haider' Raj said that this movement is not just for Ladakh, not just for Sonam Wangchuk, but it is for the interest of the entire country. He said that the struggle being waged here to save water, environment and natural resources is not for one person, but for the entire public. The government is not fulfilling the demands of the people of Ladakh to benefit some capitalists. Sonam Wangchuk's fast in support of the demand of including Ladakh in the Sixth Schedule and giving it statehood entered the 21st day on Tuesday. Wangchuk said 350 people spent the night with him in minus 10 degrees Celsius. Around five thousand people are arriving here every day, but not a single word has been spoken yet by the government. This country needs honest, visionary and intelligent politicians, not just short-sighted characterless politicians. “350 people slept in - 10 °C. 5000 people in the day here. But still not a word from the government. We need statesmen of integrity, farsightedness & wisdom in this country & not just shortsighted characterless politician. And I very much hope that @narendramodi ji (Prime Minister) & @AmitShah (Home Minister) ji will soon prove that they are statesmen...,” Wangchuk wrote on microblogging site X as his regular update—(KNO)
