Ganderbal, Nov 29 (KNO): The public toilet in the main market of Ganderbal has been locked for an unspecified period, leading to significant inconvenience for locals and visitors alike.
The toilet, which was constructed by the Municipal Council of Ganderbal years ago, has remained inaccessible, causing distress to the general public, especially those in urgent need of basic sanitation facilities.
As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the locals have voiced their frustration over the situation, stressing the importance of this basic public amenity.
“It is extremely inconvenient for us, especially during the busy hours in the market. There are no other public toilets nearby and we are left with no choice but to look for alternatives,” said a local resident.
Another local, who regularly visits the market, added, “This toilet was meant to serve the people, but its closure has been a constant source of trouble. We urge the authorities to reopen it as soon as possible.”
When contacted, the Executive Officer of the Municipal Council Ganderbal, Mirza Asif Ali, explained that the toilet had been locked due to repeated thefts, including stolen taps.
“The toilet had been vandalized multiple times, and essential fixtures were stolen, which led to us locking it for safety reasons. However, I assure the public that we are working on a solution, and the toilet will be reopened soon,” Ali said.
The residents hoped that the concerned authorities will take immediate action to resolve the issue and restore access to this essential facility—(KNO)
