Pulwama residents demand shifting of dumping site from circular road | KNO

Pulwama, Jun 25 (KNO): The dumping site along the circular road in the main town of Pulwama district continues to irk locals and have demanded immediate shifting of the site. The locals of the area told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the Municipal Committee, while collecting garbage from various areas of the town, is throwing it on the circular road near Government Degree College (GDC) for Women. “The dumping of garbage creates a lot of problems for locals as well as students studying in the college,” they said, adding that a foul smell is emanating from it, engulfing the area up to several metres. Muzzafar Ahmad, a local, said that garbage is dumped near the college on a regular basis, due to which the residents, college-going students and passersby are facing a lot of inconveniences. “The dumping site has made our life hell as we are unable to open our doors and windows,” Muzaffar, who lives just a few metres away, said. Another local said the garbage site has also become a hub for stray dogs, thereby posing a risk to their lives as well. “Despite having space available at many places, the authorities have chosen this point to dump the garbage in a residential area, thereby creating problems for us,” a local shop owner said. “The government must take immediate steps to shift the dumping site as we cannot live here under such circumstances,” he said Locals said that they have been hearing for the past one year that the site will be shifted to another location but that hasn't been done as of now. They urged the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Dr Basharat Qayoom to shift the site as soon as possible. District Magistrate Pulwama Dr Basharat Qayoom told KNO that solid waste management plant in Newa area is completed and the dumping site will be shifted soon—(KNO)
