Srinagar, Mar 6 (KNO): Jammu and Srinagar are set to get PM Ekta Unity Malls, with a total investment of Rs 255 crore, aimed at promoting local handicrafts, industrial products, and Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged goods from J&K. According to an official document accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the malls will serve as dedicated marketplaces for selling One District One Product (ODOP) items, traditional Kashmiri crafts such as Pashmina shawls, carpets, papier-mâché, and walnut wood carvings. The document states that initiative is part of the Government of India’s broader vision to support local industries, offering artisans and small businesses a structured commercial space to showcase their products to a wider market. It also highlights that the malls will provide opportunities for expanding sales and integrating local goods into larger retail and e-commerce networks. The document states that the project aligns with the J&K Start-Up Policy 2024-27 and the New Industrial Policy 2021-30, reinforcing the government’s focus on boosting local economies, creating employment, and attracting investment in the region—(KNO)
