Ganderbal, Feb 03 (KNO): Sonamarg, the picturesque tourist destination in Central Kashmir, has recorded an impressive influx of 55,934 visitors in January 2025. This marks a significant rise in tourism activity for the region. According to the latest figures, the majority of visitors were domestic tourists, with 53,676 people visiting the stunning hill station. In addition, 1,114 foreign nationals were attracted to Sonamarg’s scenic beauty, while 1,144 locals also visited the area. As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the total footfall for the month of January stands at 55,934, indicating a strong interest in the destination. Tourism officials attribute the rise in visitors to improved infrastructure, better connectivity, and growing awareness of Sonamarg’s unique charm. The local tourism industry is expected to benefit greatly from this surge in tourism, further boosting the region’s economy. For the first time since the inauguration of the Sonamarg Tunnel, tourism in the region has seen a significant boost. The tunnel has improved accessibility to the area, making it easier for tourists to reach the stunning destination, especially during the winter months. This winter, Sonamarg has seen an influx of visitors, with the enhanced connectivity encouraging both domestic and international tourists to explore the beauty of the region. The opening of the tunnel has not only provided a more convenient travel route but has also contributed to the growth of the local economy by attracting more tourists to the picturesque hill station. Gh Mohd Bhat, CEO of Sonamarg Development Authority told KNO Sonamarg has witnessed a remarkable surge in tourism this year, with a record 55,934 visitors in January alone. The momentum continues with Sports Minister Satish Sharma's recent visit to inaugurate a skiing camp and the ongoing sports activities that promise to further boost the region's appeal—(KNO)
