Srinagar, Dec 10(KNO): An awareness rally was taken out here by the students of Al-Huda Public School Pantha Chowk area of Srinager city on Saturday against drugs abuse. An school official said that the people of the area were apprised about the ill-effects of the drug abuse. Carrying placards on anti-drugs themes, school children marched in the streets and markets of the Pantha Chowk area shouting slogans and while telling residents to stay away from drugs and alcohol. The students said that it is high time to take steps to curb the growing use of drugs in villages as peddlers are finding it safe to operate in rural areas as compared to towns and urban areas. "Drugs are a big issue here too and authorities must initiate action now before the situation worsens," one the female student who was part of rally said. Meanwhile, the locals of the area hailed the initiative of the school management and encouraged their efforts, saying it would help in disseminating the information with regard to health hazards of drug abuse.  "Organising such rallies is the need of hour as it may help us to control this menace by letting people aware about its consequences," they said.(KNO)
