Srinagar, Dec 11 (KNO): Sultanpora a remote village located in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is famous for its gold trade.
Nearly 29 kms away from summer capital Srinagar, Sultanpora, is surrounded by the dense apple orchards. However, the village is famous for gold trade.
The streets are mostly filled with well designed jewelry shops. In the evening the area witnesses huge crowds when distributors come to collect the stock from the market to sell it in their respective areas.
Most of the villagers usually do business of gold and are earning good livelihood from the ornamental business.
“Our forefathers were selling jewelry items while traveling far-flung places and door- to- door. But, now we have established showrooms, shops across the valley,” Ali Mohammad, a local, told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
“I was struggling to get a job, so I started this trade. It changed my fate. Today, scores of boys do this business while continuing their studies,” Iftikhar Ahmad said.
“Most of the population have shops in Srinagar, Baramulla, Bandipora, Sumbal and other areas of the valley,” he said—(KNO)
