Srinagar, Nov 27 (KNO): As part of the ongoing crackdown against traffic violations and a move aimed at promoting road safety, the Traffic Police in Srinagar on Wednesday distributed free helmets among motorcyclists and their pillion riders.
The initiative has been welcomed by locals as a thoughtful step towards reducing road accidents and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
As per the details obtained by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), in an appreciable gesture, the senior police officers personally distributed free helmets to two-wheeler riders and their pillion riders.
Similarly, this act of the Traffic Police Srinagar distributing free helmets to pillion riders earned widespread appreciation from the locals, who viewed it as a compassionate and proactive measure.
Meanwhile, speaking on the sidelines of the event, a senior traffic police official highlighted the progress being made in improving road safety in Srinagar. “This is a continuous process, and we are seeing a positive impact. More people are now wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers, and the instances of underage driving have significantly decreased,” he said.
He added, “Traffic violators, along with those with multiple unpaid challans, risk having their vehicles seized. We urge the public to clear pending challans to avoid such situations.”
Notably, the initiative was met with positive reactions from the locals, who said it is a great step. Many accidents can be prevented if everyone wears helmets. The police leading by example will encourage more people to follow suit.
Another local said the focus on reducing underage driving is much needed. “This will save lives and make our roads safer for everyone.”
