BCC labourers demand 'on-roll recruitment', threatens to stop work at Kuligad-Drabshalla tunnel | KNO

Thathri, Feb 04 (KNO): After holding a number of protests in the past three months, labourers working at Kuligad-Drabshalla Tunnel with Beigh Construction Company Pvt. Ltd. (BCC) Thursday demanded, "on-roll company recruitment" of all workers. A delegation of workers visited Tehsildar Drabshalla today. According to information received by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the labourers alleged that they are not properly recruited by the company. The workers also allege that no facilities like medical assistance have been provided by the company to them. Speaking to KNO, Tehsildar Drabshalla Arun Sharma said that in a meeting held with BCC Project Manager, BDC Chairperson Drabshalla and group of workers, the company PM assured him that he will issue the appointment letter and company guidelines to all labourer working in the tunnel within a week. "Main motive of this meeting was to protect the labour rights like medical facilities, insurance etc," he said. KuliGud-Drabshalla tunnel is being constructed to deal with the situation created due to the continuous falling of boulders and debris at the site of KaliGud so that in the future, any unpleasant accidents that may occur at this dangerous place may be avoided—(KNO)
