Bandipora, July 20(KNO): The residents of Chak Grooora and Chana Gali in Saderkoot villages of North Kashmir's Bandipora district are facing scarcity of drinking water despite the administration boasting about providing tapped water to the people.
Locals told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the construction of the water supply scheme in the area was started in 2019 by the Jal-Shakti department but the scheme is yet to be completed due to which people are facing difficulties.
They said that the scheme was to benefit the twin villages including Chak Grooora and Chana Gali in Saderkoo but the villagers have been left high and dry as the scheme is yet to be completed despite the fact that three years have passed.
The locals said that they have no choice but to fetch water from three kilometres away while they have informed the department about this several times but no positive response has been received so far
"We have protested many times and begged the concerned department but we are not getting clean drinking water yet, " Mahtaba Begum, an elderly woman said. "I have heard that this year the water supply scheme will be completed and our town will get drinking water.”
Ishfaq Ahmed, another resident said: “Our women have to go far in the morning to fetch drinking water. We don't know why our water supply scheme is not being completed yet.”
The villagers also appealed to the concerned authorities to pay attention to the area and restore the water supply without further delay.
An official told KNO that the concerned department is taking prompt action on the said water supply scheme and the issue will be resolved in the coming days—(KNO).
