Doda, Jan 30 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir Doda wing Tuesday declared war against growing drug abuse and its mafia stating that drug peddlers will be booked under Public Safety Act and the war against drugs will be taken to its logical conclusion.
Talking to reporters as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda Abdul Qayoom said that they have initiated a special drive against drug peddlers and drug addicts by lodging FIRs and detention under PSA.
He said that the individuals who are habitual offenders are a serious threat to the local youth and their detention under stringent PSA will definitely act as deterrence to the criminals and drug smugglers.
The SSP Doda said that acting tough against drug peddlers under 'operation Sanjeevni', during the year-2023 and first month of 2024, Police have registered more than 30 FIRs against 40 offenders. “Besides, more than a dozen notorious drug peddlers have been detained under PSA (PITNDPS) so far. Besides, a number of individuals were detained under preventive custody for their involvement in drug selling/ addiction,” he said.
He also said under the 'Parhaar' initiative, they are reaching out to the people to find out where the supply of drugs is coming to Doda.
“To break the supply chain, we are also arresting and detaining persons from outside Jammu and Kashmir, who are involved in supplying the contraband to Doda youths,” he informed. “Doda police will not spare drug peddlers and anyone involved in drug menace will definitely go to Jail.”
The SSP warned the drug smugglers to desist from this black trading and other criminal activities, stating that else stringent action as warranted under law shall be taken against them which includes detention under PSA and also attachment of property of habitual offenders—(KNO)
