Srinagar, Sep 21 (KNO): The Health and Medical Education Department has prioritised the establishment of dialysis units at Sub-District Hospitals (SDHs) Shangus and Seer Hamdan during the current financial year 2026-27, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo said in response to a question raised by MLA Reyaz Ahmad Khan.
In her reply accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the minister said the department was committed to establishing and extending dialysis facilities up to the level of SDHs and Community Health Centres (CHCs) across Jammu and Kashmir in a phased manner. Regarding the proposed dialysis facilities at SDH Shangus and SDH Seer Hamdan, Itoo said the installations had been prioritised for the current financial year.
She said the matter had been taken up with the Chief Engineer, Mechanical & Hospital Engineering Department, Kashmir, for formulation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs). According to the minister, the DPRs will cover the establishment of dialysis units besides installation of 500 LPH Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants and other allied infrastructure required for operationalising the facilities. The works will be taken up for execution after the DPRs are formulated and approved by the executing agency, she said.
She further said that after completion of the required infrastructure, dialysis machines would be installed at the two institutions through the J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMSCL). The minister said the phased expansion of dialysis services was aimed at taking specialised renal-care facilities closer to patients at the sub-district and community health-centre levels.
However, the department has not proposed setting up dialysis units at Primary Health Centre (PHC) level at present. "Accordingly, establishment of dialysis services at PHC Mattan is not being considered at this stage," the minister said in her reply—(KNO)
