Govt starts sanitizing schools, sensitizing HoI's ahead of reopening on March 1 | KNO

Srinagar, Feb 03 (KNO): Ahead of the reopening of schools in the Valley, the School Education Department has started a massive drive for sanitization of government schools. Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Mohammad Younis Malik told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the first priority for the department was to sensitize the Head of the Institutions (HoI’s) of all government schools. “In Kashmir, we will first sensitize the HoI’s of 11,700 schools as to how they will follow the recommended COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and guidelines,” Malik said. Malik said that the department is simultaneously sanitizing the classrooms and all premises of the government schools to ensure that no student or staff is infected. He said that it is necessary to keep all classrooms near and clean. Malik said that the department is also chalking out a plan to control the overcrowded schools. “In schools wherein the student roll is extra, we are devising the mechanism to accommodate students in a proper ratio to maintain the social distancing norm,” he said. Malik further said the students and staff would have to wear masks to ensure that they are properly following all prescribed guidelines. On asking about the facility of health care facilities for the students and the staff, Malik said, “If any student or a staff member is found asymptomatic, will be taken to health care immediately for the medical checkup.” Meanwhile, the winter vacations in Kashmir valley started from December 02. The schools are scheduled to reopen on March 01—(KNO)
