Srinagar, Aug 08 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir’s former chief ministers including Dr Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti raised the issue of delayed statehood to J&K during a meeting of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), held in New Delhi. The meeting was hosted by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and attended by representatives of 25 opposition parties. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), National Conference (NC) Patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah said that the promise of restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood has not been met. He said the continuation of Union Territory status has affected the region’s access to political representation and governance autonomy. PDP Chief, Mehbooba Mufti said that the Union government’s inaction on political commitments made to Jammu and Kashmir has contributed to growing distance between the youth and mainstream institutions. The meeting was convened to discuss developments related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in various states. A presentation by Rahul Gandhi focused on alleged irregularities in the ongoing revision process. Gandhi said irregular methods were used to influence voter registration figures in Karnataka and Bihar.
