Srinagar, Nov 04 (KNO): Residents of Nowshera’s Usmaniya Masjid Lane in Lakhripora, Srinagar have once again appealed to the authorities to address a decade-old civic issue, an incomplete drainage system that continues to trouble households and flood the locality during rains. Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), locals said the drainage line was dug nearly ten years ago but never connected to the main sewage network, leaving it defunct and causing wastewater to backflow into their homes. “Every time it rains, the lanes here turn into pools of dirty water,” said a local resident. “We have made several requests to officials over the years, but nothing has moved on the ground. It feels like we have been forgotten,” he said. Another resident, Shabir Hussain said the problem has become unbearable. “Sewage water enters our homes, damaging walls and foundations. Children can’t even step outside after rainfall. It is a nightmare every monsoon.” Meanwhile, residents said the incomplete project has not only damaged property but also raised health concerns. “This stagnant water attracts mosquitoes and causes foul smell,” said a local shopkeeper, urging authorities to take immediate action. Moreover, locals have sought the intervention of MLA Zadibal constituency, Tanvir Sadiq to ensure that the long-pending drainage line is finally connected to the main system and the area made livable again—(KNO)
