Jammu, Mar 23 (KNO): In stories marked by grief, resilience and a long wait for justice, families of terror victims in Jammu and Kashmir found a measure of solace as appointment letters were distributed to Next of Kin (NoK) under a special initiative led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) among the beneficiaries was Masood Ahmed from Ramban, who was a child when tragedy struck his family over two decades ago. On July 15, 2001, terrorists took his father to a hilltop and killed him, leaving behind a shattered household and years of hardship. For 24 years, the family carried the burden of loss, struggling to rebuild their lives amid memories of that fateful day.
On Monday, Masood Ahmed finally received a government job appointment letter—an outcome he and his family had waited for through years of uncertainty. The moment marked not just employment, but recognition of their suffering and a step towards restoring dignity.
In a similar case, an appointment letter was handed over to Mohammad Rafiq of Sumbal Jawari in Ramban, whose mother was gunned down by terrorists on September 24, 2006. Recalling years of neglect, Rafiq said the family had repeatedly sought compensation but found little support in the past.
“It is only now that the administration has come forward to help us,” he indicated, reflecting a mix of relief and lingering pain after nearly two decades of struggle.
Officials said several hundred appointment letters were distributed to families of terror victims across the Jammu region since 2025. “The step is being seen as a significant outreach effort by the administration. The initiative aims to provide long-awaited relief and rehabilitation to those who have borne the brunt of terrorism,” they added.
For many recipients, the gesture goes beyond employment—it represents closure to years of silent suffering, recognition of their loss, and a renewed hope for a more secure future—(KNO)
