Srinagar, May 16 (KNO): A probationary sub-inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police allegedly shot his wife dead following a domestic quarrel and later attempted suicide in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said on Saturday.
According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the accused officer, identified as Deep Singh, was posted at a Special Operations Group (SOG) camp in the Kandi area of the district. “The incident took place late on Friday night after an argument broke out between Singh and his wife, Bhawana, at their residence,” said an official.
“In a fit of rage, the officer allegedly opened fire on his wife, resulting in her death on the spot,” he added.
“After the shooting, Singh allegedly turned the weapon on himself and sustained critical injuries. He was immediately shifted to a hospital and later referred to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar for specialised treatment, “ the official said.
Hospital sources described Singh’s condition as “life threatening.”
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and started an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.
The body of the deceased woman has been sent for post-mortem examination, the official said—(KNO)
