Srinagar, Aug 13 (KNO): Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, V.K. Bidhuri, on Wednesday said the recent rotten meat seizures in the Valley cannot be the result of a single day’s lapse, but are likely connected to a demand-supply gap. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the full dress rehearsal for Independence Day celebrations at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, Div Com Bidhuri as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the Chief Minister has already held a meeting on the matter and directed for action. He urged people to remain alert and cautious. “This is not only about meat—such issues can also happen with milk and other food products. We all need to pay attention because it is a serious matter,” he said. Pertinently, the statement comes as authorities investigate the seizure of over 11,000 kilograms of rotten meat across the Valley. Officials are also looking into reports that the meat may have been treated with formaldehyde, a harmful chemical used to preserve dead bodies, though lab test results are still awaited. Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials said samples are being collected from various parts of Kashmir and inspections will continue to ensure public safety—(KNO)
