Jammu, Jan 21 (KNO): Captain Shivani Sharma of 2 J&K Girls Battalion, Associate NCC Officer, Gandhinagar College for Women of NCC Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Directorate has been awarded Raksha Mantri Commendation along with a cash award of Rs 20,000/- by Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister in the presence of DGNCC Lieutenant General Tarun Kumar Aich.
According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the award has been conferred during investiture ceremony organized at DGNCC Camping Ground New Delhi on 21 January 2021.
The officer was conferred this award for her commitment, dedication and devotion to NCC duties and selfless social service in the adopted village Sehora.
Capt. Shivani Sharma has been associated with NCC since 1996 as a cadet. She has been working as an Associate NCC Officer for the last nine years. She along with her cadets worked in the adopted village Sehora for the last three years and coordinated various welfare works in the favour of villagers.
A six month Skill Development Course in Tailoring was also organised by her for the ladies in village Sehora. During Pandemic, she motivated the women of Self Help Group to make masks for themselves and for sale as well.
In December 2020, three Awareness Drives on Separation of Plastic Wastes were conducted under her guidance and the collected plastic waste was deposited to Swachta Kendra. Being a voracious worker, meticulous planner and a skilled mentor, she has played a pivotal role in mentoring and shaping the career of her cadets. It’s because of her dedication and guidance, the NCC cadets of 2 J&K Girls Battalion, Gandhinagar College for Women have been bringing laurels at National level.
Earlier in July 2020, she was awarded with ADG Meddle and Commendation Certificate along with eight cadets of her college for her devotion to duty and her emphatic outlook in reaching out to kith and kin of Kargil Martyrs during Kargil Vijay Diwas. Dr Sangeeta Nagari, Principal of Gandhinagar College for Women and Colonel Satvinder Singh, Commanding Officer, 2 J&K Girls Battalion also applauded the achievement and motivated her to keep doing well—(KNO)
