Srinagar, Jun 30 (KNO): In Jammu and Kashmir at least ‘4200’ lecturer posts are lying vacant—thus raising a question on the quality of education at secondary level in government-run-schools. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the School Education Department in a review meeting with Education Minister Sakina Itoo stated that there is a sanctioned strength of 10,330 lecturer posts out of which 6130 are in position. The official documents further reveal that there is a vacancy of 4200 lecturer posts in the department. However, the school education department in the meeting further states that 594 lecturer posts have been referred to the Public Service Commission (PSC) for direct recruitment. It also informed that filling of vacant posts under promotion quota is in process. Besides, the department in the meeting also stated that the placement proposals of eligible PG Masters, Teachers as in-charge lecturers in different disciplines are being finalized for submission to the authorities. “Around 1600 vacant posts of lecturers shall be filled in OPG mode by July-15-2025 for major subjects and rest by July-31-2025,” reads the documents. About the referral of Non-Gazetted posts to JKSSB, the department informed that the proposal for referral of 727 non-teaching staff and 43 posts of MTS to JKSSB has been submitted to the Finance Department for obtaining Financial Concurrence. It also said that the vacant General Line Teacher posts stand frozen in light of SAC decision in 2018—(KNO)
