Srinagar, May 23 (KNO): The intense heatwave continued across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, with all the stations across the valley recording above normal temperatures. According to the details shared by the Meteorological (MeT) Department with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius, which was 7.8 degrees Celsius above normal. The details reveal that Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir, has recorded a day temperature of 32.5 degrees Celsius while Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded 32.4 degrees Celsius. In Pahalgam, a famous tourist resort, the mercury settled at 28.8 degrees Celsius while Kokernag recorded 31.5 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg, a famous ski resort, has recorded a maximum temperature of 24.0 degrees Celsius. Further, the Jammu division witnessed a slight improvement on Friday with Jammu City recording a day temperature of 38.2 degrees Celsius. Banihal, Batote, Katra and Bhaderwah recorded a maximum temperature of 29.2, 27.7, 35.2 and 31.4 degreess Celsius, respectively. Meanwhile, Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad has predicted an isolated heat wave in J&K, saying that generally hot & dry weather is expected with the possibility of a brief spell of light rain at isolated places mainly towards late afternoon till May 26. Ahmad said that from May 27 to 31, the weather would remain generally hot & dry with the possibility of a brief spell of light rain and thundershower at scattered places. The MeT in its advisory said that a rise in maximum temperature by 1-2 degreess Celsius is expected with the possibility of a heatwave at scattered places of Kashmir division till May 23 and fall by 2 to 3 degreess Celsius thereafter. A rise in maximum temperature is expected by 2-3 degreess Celsius, with the possibility of a heatwave over Jammu division till May 26. “Possibility of thunder, gusty winds at isolated places towards late afternoon can't be ruled out,” according to the advisory—(KNO)
