Jammu, Mar 02 (KNO): Saying that the organization is working to improve the city, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Tuesday said that its authorities have made attempts toward improving the rankings in the next Swachh Survekshan survey 2021 and different activities were undertaken to ensure active public participation. The ranking issued by the central government last year raised eyebrows over the poor performance of the JMC with people including the activists blaming the administration for not taking concrete steps to make it a clean city. Avny Lavasa, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, while addressing the reporters on the sidelines of the event, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that this is the sixth year for Swachh Suareekshan which is cleanliness and solid waste management ranking looked after by the Ministry of Urban Development Government of India. "We aim to improve our system and generate awareness among the people. The idea is to aware people so that the system is improved. There is must participation of people since it's very important to have them in such programs," she said. Lavasa said that unless the citizens take equal responsibility till then everything is half completed since a-lot of new things have been started but they may take some time to institutionalize. "We are hopeful to be in the top 100 rankings and subsequent years we eye to be in top 10 and even at number 1 if the teamwork efforts are well," the JMC commissioner said. Deputy Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Purnima Sharma while addressing the news conference said that soon after the elected body along with the commissioner, attempts were made to improve the ranking since the Jammu performed weak last time. She said that under a particular component of the Swach Bharat Mission, which includes the Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign was launched very effectively for the last nearly six months, and people in every corner were given awareness with different activities to ensure their participation. "The Swachh Survekshan survey is underway till the 31st of March and people need to preserve areas hygienically. Follow all the norms and answer all the queries raised actively to ensure that our rankings improve while the JMC has made great attempts to make it a reality," Sharma said.
