Srinagar, Feb 16 (KNO): Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Srinagar City Javid Koul Tuesday said that a lot needs to be done to improve the traffic management in the City, saying that people must understand their responsibility in sharing their bit to put an end to the traffic mess.
Koul was addressing media persons here at Kashmir Press Club (KPC) in Srinagar in an awareness event programme organized by Insurance Company in collaboration with a FM station.
“I don't believe in deploying more men on roads, rather I believe people should understand their own responsibilities while visiting the City. Despite parking spaces available, people park their cars on roads,” he said, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
On the occasion, SSP City Traffic said, the traffic department is in full swing and has been able to reduce the traffic congestion on roads. “People traveling in their personal vehicles should use the parking sites rather than parking on roadsides, which leads to interruption in traffic flow,” he said.
Replying to a query about the illegal encroachments on footpaths and roads, he said, “We have apprised the Divisional Administration. Removing encroachers from footpaths and roads does not fall under MVA. A joint mechanism has to be in place where SMC and other associated agencies will be roped in and the process will start soon.”
Meanwhile, the statement issued to the media by FM station said that the volunteers from FM Station have identified 10 major beats which are most congested including, Sanat Nagar Chowk, Hyderpora Chowk, Dalgate, Chanpora Chowk, Pantha Chowk, Lal Bazar, Batmaloo and Karanagar and will sensitize commuters about Road Safety and traffic rules from today till 23rd of February—(KNO)
