Srinagar, Jun 11 (KNO): Presided over by the senior leader CPI(M), Ghulam Nabi Malik, the party organised a one-day Convention at Tagore Hall, Srinagar for the restoration of Legitimate Constitutional Right to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
M.A.Baby, General Secretary CPI(M), Amra Ram, Bikash Ranjan Battacharya, Members of Parliament and M.Y.Tarigami, Member Centre Committee CPI(M) addressed the Convention, a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reads.
While addressing the Convention, M.A.Babay lauded the role of Kashmiris for holding spontaneous protests over the gruesome killings of the unarmed tourists on 22.04.2025 at Pahalgam. “Unity among the people is necessary to thwart the forces of disharmony in the society. CPI(M) has been firm that restoration of Article 370, statehood and other legitimate constitutional rights will pave the way for building confidence among the people of J&K, which is quite necessary for peace in the area.”
“Post Pahalgam incident, we demanded for summoning of a special session of Parliament to discuss current security situation in J&K and the emerging escalation between the two countries, but the government seems to be reluctant to face the Opposition,” he reiterated.
Amra Ram, MP and President Sanyukt Kisan Morcha asserted that whenever there was the question of democratic rights of the people of J&K, CPI(M) vehemently favoured the restoration of these rights which were unceremoniously snatched on August 5, 2019 even without consulting the stakeholders. Aftermath of the Pahalgam episode, escalation on borders gravely devasted various residential houses at border areas of Poonch, Rajouri, Uri, Keran, Tangdar claiming innocent lives, huge loss to livestock and properties. He said that meagre compensation of Rs.1.30 lacs per household is merely an eyewash which needs to be enhanced substantially. “For the first time in the constitutional history of India, the state was bifurcated and downgraded into two separate union territories of J&K and Ladakah which is against the democratic spirit and ethos of the country, he said.
Bikash Ranjan Battacharya, Member of Parliament said that Kashmiryat is a symbol of unity and brotherhood which withstood its testimony during 1947 partition when whole of the sub-continent was engulfed in bloodshed. This unity needs to be strengthened in the larger interest of the people of J&K, he said. He assured that the party will strongly pursue the restoration of constitutional rights to the people of J&K in the Parliament.
M.Y.Tarigami, senior leader CPI(M) and MLA said that during the testing times aftermath of August 5th, 2019, CPI(M) on national level vehemently opposed the constitutional onslaught of abrogation of Article 370 and down-grading of the state into two separate union territories unilaterally which was a direct assault on the bond of relationship of J&K with the union of India. This is the sole example in the country where the boundaries of the state were changed by imposing curfew, restrictions on media/press, detaining of the political leadership and activists.
Among other things, the government had claimed at the time of abrogation that there will be flood of jobs which is contrary to the ground reality. “We as people of J&K must stand together to raise our voices against the undemocratic acts of this dispensation and must unitedly fight for the restoration of constitutional rights to the people which have been snatched on August 5th, 2019. He emphasised that Government of India must respect the mandate of J&K people and stick to its commitment given on the floor of the Parliament for restoration of full Statehood soon after the assembly elections. He also stressed that the rationalization of reservation in view of the standing position of the Hon’ble Supreme Court be considered for implementation to provide relief to large sections of unemployed youth in J&K. He said that unabated arrests of youth need to be stopped. He assured that CPI(M) will firmly highlight and pursue the issues of J&K people in the Parliament, which include restoration of constitutional rights, issues of apple growers and unemployed youth
