Srinagar, Jul 09 (KNO): The Jammu & Kashmir Medical Council (JKMC) has issued 1,688 registration certificates in the last two months as part of its ongoing efforts to speed up the registration process for doctors. These include 542 permanent, 863 provisional, 132 additional qualification, 111 NOCs, and 40 good standing certificates. In total, the Council as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), has issued 3,886 registrations in 2024, following a public notice last year making it mandatory for all allopathic doctors to have a permanent registration certificate to practice in J&K. To get registered, doctors must submit various verified documents such as school certificates, medical degrees, and internship completion proofs. Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) have additional requirements, including verified documents through embassies and FMG exam scores. The demand for registration has increased recently as nearly 900 MBBS students finished their final year and around 1,000 interns completed their training. Also, 255 FMGs were selected for internships in J&K medical colleges. The Council is planning to **hire more staff and digitize old records to make the process faster and more efficient. Permanent registrations will now be valid for five years, after which doctors will need to renew them by earning required training credits—(KNO)
