New Delhi, Jan 01 (KNO): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) played a decisive role in Operation Sindoor. While addressing a gathering on the occasion of 68th Foundation Day of DRDO in New Delhi, Singh, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said, “The weapon systems developed by DRDO were crucial during Operation Sindoor, demonstrating the organisation’s professionalism and commitment towards safeguarding national interests.” He commended DRDO for strengthening India’s indigenous defence capabilities by providing the Armed Forces with state-of-the-art equipment, which performed seamlessly during the operation and bolstered the morale of personnel on the field. Singh also expressed confidence that DRDO will soon achieve the creation of the Sudarshan Chakra, an air defence system announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day address in 2025. “Under this initiative, DRDO is tasked with equipping vital installations with comprehensive aerial protection over the next decade. Operation Sindoor underscored the critical importance of air defence in modern warfare, and I am confident that DRDO will accomplish this goal soon,” he said. The Defence Minister praised DRDO for not only creating advanced technology but also building public trust. He highlighted the organisation’s collaboration with private industry, academia, and start-ups, which has contributed to a synergetic defence ecosystem. “DRDO has consistently improved its systems, processes, and working methods—from procurement and project management to engaging with start-ups and MSMEs—making work easier, faster, and more reliable,” he added. Singh urged DRDO to continue aligning with the rapidly evolving technological landscape and develop products relevant to current and future defence requirements. He encouraged the organisation to focus on innovation and explore areas that could further enhance private sector participation. Emphasising continuous learning and development, he said, “Technology, innovation, and new domains of warfare are advancing rapidly, making yesterday’s knowledge obsolete. We must continue learning and challenging ourselves to pave the way for the next generation.” During his visit to the DRDO headquarters, Singh was briefed by DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V. Kamat and Secretary of Defence R&D on the organisation’s 2025 achievements, ongoing R&D activities, industry collaborations, and the roadmap for 2026. Raksha Rajya Mantri Sanjay Seth, DGs, corporate directors, and senior DRDO scientists were also present. The Defence Minister called for sustained efforts in deep tech and next-generation technologies, stating that such advancements will enhance national capabilities and strengthen India’s defence ecosystem—(KNO)
